Scott
Pullem has worked in the boating industry for more than 33
years. While his history of family boating goes back to 1965
he always wanted to be around the boating world as often
as possible. He worked independently during summers on boats
from cleaning, general maintenance and helping crew while
attending high school. Starting the summer of 1974 and continuing
while he attended the University of Kentucky in 1974/1975
and University of Louisville, he started working
summers in the service department with Kentuckiana Yacht
Sales Inc. One winter while working with a consulting engineering
firm as a draftsman, Scott realized that the boating industry
was where his heart was and in 1978, he
joined the sales staff at Kentuckiana Yacht Sales. He was
promoted to Sales Manager in 1989.
As Jefferson Yachts was being developed, Scott was on the ground level working with founder Leon Shaw. Travel in the late 70’s those days included studying the importation market in California where Asian trawlers were appearing. Importation sales with the dealership, Kentuckiana Yacht Sales, included models from yards like Cheer Men and Chung Hwa. Dealership importation included dealing with PT Trawler Californian Importers, Sinclair Wen and Bud Lowery. In late 1979 they made their first crossing in the Gulf of Mexico together in a new 41’ PT Trawler with only the use of a compass and manual navigation. Shaw took Pullem under his wing teaching many facets of the growing import manufacturing business.
